She has served on the Boards of Trustees of Brown County Public Library and the local Rotary club, and as a volunteer tutor through Brown County Literacy Coalition. After graduating from Miami University with degrees in French and International Studies, she began a career in banking. Since 1996, she has participated in the family business, McGinley Vacation Cabins . Her parents are Mike McGinley and the late Elizabeth McGinley. She has a daughter, Elizabeth, and a son, Scott.
